Hi peoplez on DA... LooL...

I know this will sound REALLY retarded, since I have been taking photographs for some time and I have been on DA for a year.. but what is ISO? And how do diff settings affect the result of the photo? And can it be adjusted on most cams, especially the D70 which I am planning to get?

I've been tagged by my sweet friend ~queenthejewel to say 6 facts/weird stuff about myself.. Even though I did this before, I wont dissapoint her and I will try to think of 6 boring things about me:

1-I dont feel comfortable sleeping alone in the house, not that I get scared, but I am just not comfortable about it.. I hate too much silence... Reminds me of death and loneliness...

2- I am usually very protective of my stuff... And my space... But if I like the person and/or trust them then I dont even mind giving my car keys to them!

3- I forgive and forget very easily... You can be an asshole/bitch to me and then I will forget all about it after one or 2 days.. Too bad some people dont act the same way...

4- I never had a steady hobby or interest in my childhood and early youth.. which drove my parents crazy.. I would ask for a telescope cause I got interested in astronomy, then ask for a microscope and slides cause I liked Biology, then suddenly change to stamp collecting, marine life and sharks, then to Karate (I got a blue belt by the way!)... it was annoying to them I am sure, but it helped me to gather alot of info about various things in life... thanks mom and dad!

5- I was told I have some unnatural strength.. my mom noticed that when I was a kid, I was much stronger than other kids my age... once a vase fell on my head from several feet up and it cracked into peices and I didnt even get hurt or cry... another time in high school, my aunts GMC house-van (a bit smaller than an RV) ran out of gas in the middle of the road, I told my cousin to take over the wheel and I went down and pushed the van (plus 7 people with their luggage inside) till we managed to find a spot to stop the car.. people actually slowed down to see what the f*ck is that guy doin! (Mashallah, lool)

6- I appreciate good food, not just anything... For example I dont eat chocolate except if its GOOD chocolate... I am a very picky food critique, my friends always take my advise about the good places to eat... In Cairo I never went to the same place twice cause I wanted to try diff stuff, and in Malaysia I always liked to try things that I dont have back here in Saudi Arabia...

I tag who the hell wants to be tagged! LooL...

And now Thumby time (remember the song Thumba Wumba? LooL)... pay these people a visit and give them a fave or comment!

<-- Please read "fatiha" for his soul.. May Allah bless him...

Thank you very much for the feature. I'm sometimes surprised at how much attention this piece gets. Mostly because it was taken with a sub-par camera, in sub-par lighting. Though, the lack of good white balance ended up complimenting the piece in the long run.

Regardless, thank you again for the feature. I truely appreciate it.

By the way, ISO is the sensitivity of the "film" (in our case, the sensor) th light. With a higher ISO setting, you can shoot in lower light. The trade off is that with a higher ISO setting, you'll begin to see "noise" in your photos. The D70 is pretty good at managing this and keeping noice down to an acceptable level. There is a setting that allows the camera to process low-light images immediately after you shoot them. It takes quite a bit longer for the photo to "process" after you shoot it, but it's worth it. Another way to shoot better low light photos is to buy a "fast" lens. This means, a lower "f" number. For example, I'm getting ready to buy the Nikon 50mm f1.8 lens. A lower "f" number means the max. aperature is wider, allowing faster shutter speeds at lower light levels.

Hope this helps you.

dont mention it :-) but for the info, what is sub-par cam and lighting?

wow thats more than enough, thanks :-)

But whats the relation between ISO and the shutter speed and exposure settings?

ISO determines how sensitive a camera sensor is to light.

Let's say you are shooting at night and there isn't enough light around. If you are shooting at ISO 200 (default), you will notice that without flash your shutter speed would be at around 6 or up to 15 which is slow and may cause blur. If you increase your ISO to 800, it will make your sensor more sensitive to light and your shutter will become faster at around 30-40 which should be acceptable but in return it will grain, or what's called "Digital Noise" on DSLRs.

Enjoy!

Sub-par camera and lighting is using my old Sony CD350 with just a regular lamp. But like I said, I think the lack of a correct white balance actually gave the photo warmth. I was going for a pure white background, but like how it turned out even better.

man I hate these links, they seem so complicated :tears: cant i get a "photography for dumbies" book or somethin? lool

so whats the ISO range on the D70? And whats the best way to avoid such digital noise? Do flashes come in handy?

Thanks!

oh ok, I used that in all my photos, I just used an external lamp or spotlight and adjusted my shutter speeds :-)

cool info, thanks!

The ISO range on the D70s is 200 to 1600 which are all standard ones you find on actual Film (film also goes up to 6400 and down to 50).

Flash will solve your problem at night without needing to boost up the ISO. Yet flash will make a night shot loose it's ambience. So if you ever want to photograph a dark scene and capture it's elements without the light of the flash ruining the mood, you can either boost up your ISO or just buy a tripod.
